C-REACTIVE PROTEIN (HIGH SENSITIVITY) 0010124
This test, the hi-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein is an acute phase reactant which means it tends to elevate in the setting of any inflammatory condition. It is a helpful test when the suspicion for joint inflammation is high but the ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) is low or normal because it is much more sensitive. It is also helpful in assessing your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The hs-CRP is most often ordered in conjunction with other tests that are performed to assess risk of heart disease, such as a lipid profile (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C).
