Aldosterone levels are checked in order to help diagnose a hormonal (endocrine) disorder such as primary aldosteronism.
Your doctor may suspect this as a diagnosis if you had symptoms or signs associated with increased aldosterone production, such as elevated blood pressure, muscle weakness, and low potassium. Low aldosterone production is associated with low blood pressure, high potassium, and low sodium.
