An injury on the job or a worsening or chronic physical problem can impede your ability to keep working full-time. If you can’t keep working at your job, getting assessed for disability status is the first step you need to take in order to secure the resources and support you need.
At Monrovia Internal Medicine & Primary Care, Dr. Ulin Sargeant and her team provide a full range of medical health evaluation services, including disability assessments. Here’s what Dr. Sargeant wants her new and existing patients from in and around the Duarte, California, area to know about the disability evaluation process.
Getting your disability evaluation
When you apply for Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income benefits, you often need to present disability evaluation or exam results in order to qualify. The California Disability Determination Services (DDS) office lets you know if you need to provide additional information before they can determine the validity of your claim.
That’s where Dr. Sargeant and the MIMPC team come in. We have years of experience working in disability assessment in the state of California, and we can help you navigate the disability assessment process. You can trust us to be candid and compassionate about your unique situation.
Getting through disability assessment paperwork can be challenging without the support of a knowledgeable professional. With our expert and honest advice, you can cut through the paperwork and complete your disability assessment, getting you that much closer to securing benefits.
What to expect during your evaluation
When you come in for a disability assessment, Dr. Sargeant doesn’t determine your disability status. Instead, she conducts needed tests or exams and sends a report to the state disability agency. Dr. Sargeant doesn’t prescribe medication or treatments as part of your disability evaluation; this office visit is strictly for assessment.
For your disability evaluation, Dr. Sargeant conducts a thorough physical, examining and documenting your symptoms. She also reviews your medical and family history. You may need diagnostic tests like X-rays or blood tests, as well.
After completing your evaluation, Dr. Sargeant sends in her report, which the state agency reviews along with the other information in your case to make a determination. You receive a letter from the state agency letting you know about the decision on your case. If you don’t agree with the decision, you can appeal it at that time.
It’s important that you keep your evaluation appointment. Without a completed disability assessment, the state agency may decide against your disability claim.
