Your bones continuously turn over.  All the time, they are being made, broken down, and then remade. When you’re young, new bone forms faster than it breaks down adding weight to your overall bone mass.  After about age 30, remodeling of your bone continues but more is lost more than gained.
There are many diseases which can affect the health of your bones such as Sarcoidosis, Osteoporosis, and Multiple Myeloma.  Their adverse effects can be detected in some blood and urine tests like the ones below.  The alkaline phosphatase, for instance, will be high with bone destruction.
In menopause for women or andropause for men, bone health can be particularly important to preserve. This is because the sex hormones which were relied upon throuout one’s life to protect one’s bones have decreased.
