The C-peptide can help to evaluate insulin production by the pancreas or to help determine the cause of low blood glucose (hypoglycemia). Your doctor may order this test if you have diabetes and your health practitioner wants to determine if you are producing enough of your own insulin or you have insulin resistance or if they want to supplement your oral medication with insulin injections or an insulin pump. If you have known hypoglycemia, this test should be tested.
