This glucose test is designed to determine if your blood glucose level is within a healthy range. It can tell you and your doctor if your blood sugar is too high(hyperglycemia) or too low (hypoglycemia), and distinguish between whether you have diabetes, pre-diabetes or normal blood sugar. Your doctor may choose to order this test as part of a regular physical, when you have symptoms suggesting hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, and during pregnancy. They will also check this test as part of routine monitoring if you are diabetic. This is a fasting test. You should have nothing to eat at least 8 hours prior.
