Increased haptoglobin is found in hemolytic disease or anemia caused by cellular destruction, liver cell disease and infectious mononucleosis (Mono). Increased levels can also be found in the setting of inflammatory conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus or in the presence of tissue necrosis. Your doctor may check a haptoglobin when you have signs of anemia such as weakness, paleness, or jaundice that the doctor suspects may be due to red blood cell destruction (hemolytic anemia)
